6. Customs & Import Rules

Pets entering Sudan should do so through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) and only as manifest cargo (with an airway bill).

You can’t bring your pet into Kenya in-cabin or even as excess luggage.

Sending a pet as manifest cargo means that the pet is flying “unaccompanied”. Even if the owner is on the same flight, the pet’s ticket (airway bill) isn’t connected in any way to the owner’s ticket.

- Usually takes 1 hour for pets to be transferred from the aircraft to the clearance area.

- the customs clearance process then takes a further 1 to 1.5 hours.

- all original documents must accompany the pet as they are required for clearance

- customs duty is payable on all pets coming into Sudan
