American Samoa Pet Import Requirements

Current Rabies Vaccination with at least 6 months of efficacy remaining. One Rabies vaccination for each animal current for their age with series / lot number of rabies vaccine used, manufacturer identity, and vial expiration date. The vaccine must have 6 additional months of efficacy for each pet upon arrival in American Samoa. Rabies Vaccination Certificate must be attached to the CVI (Prefer Standard Form CDC NASPHV Form 51)

One Rabies FAVN test completed and final from either Kansas State University, DOD, or Auburn University. Final FAVN Report copy must be attached to the CVI. All labs have a one to two month delay for processing FAVN tests before results are mailed USPS or emailed.

Negative FeLV/FIV test for felines, current within 30 days of travel to American Samoa and listed under the "additional testing" section of the CVI by your veterinarian.

The requirements to import live animals into American Samoa may be subject to locally imposed quarantine requirements. Contact the Department of Agriculture in American Samoa for more information.

Where practical, imported animals are to be detained at the airport or seaport until a Quarantine Veterinary Officer arrives to inspect the animal and give further instructions. 1.4The Quarantine Officer must not handle the animal/s. 1.5Notify the Quarantine Veterinary Officer of the arrival of the animal/s. 1.6Where all documentation is valid and the animal/s appear to be generally healthy, small animals such as dogs and cats may be permitted to travel to their owner’s property where they will be subjected to an inspection by the Quarantine Veterinarian at a convenient time. 1.7Where dogs and cats are permitted to be taken to a residence Quarantine Officers shall instruct the owners to ensure that their animal does not come into contact with any local animal until after it has been inspected and cleared by the Quarantine Veterinarian. 1.8Where the Quarantine Veterinarian believes that it is necessary, animals shall be transported to their place of quarantine accompanied by a Quarantine Officer. 1.9Animals required to undergo post-entry quarantine will normally do so at the owner’s property or at a place nominated on the import permit. Small animals such as cats and dogs must remain in the cages in which they arrive in Samoa until they arrive at the place where quarantine is to take place. 1.10After animals have been cleared by the Quarantine Veterinarian, cages are to be thoroughly washed by the owner before being returned to the airline or pet courier company.

 

For animals showing no signs of pest/disease, the Assistant CEO, Quarantine Division, MoA will arrange to advise the importer of any fees due and upon payment of those fees will release the animal/s from Quarantine.

Pit bulls, Pit Bull crosses, and American Bull Terriers, are not allowed entry. Dogs require a minimum of two DHLPP vaccinations, including one for the current year.

Completed Certificate of Veterinary Inspection for all pets. Copies of all MUST accompany the pet upon arrival in American Samoa and will be reviewed by Customs, and / or USDA Territory Veterinarian.

All yachts and boats entering American Samoa are required to contact the Harbor Master on VHF Channel 16 prior to entering our waters. Once contact has been made yachts and boats are to proceed immediately to Pago Pago Harbor where Immigration and Customs clearances and processing is completed. Should a yacht or boat then wish to sail to other islands within American Samoa’s waters they must advise the Department of Port Administration and seek permission to do so and then return back to Pago Pago for departure procedures.
