6. Customs & Import Rules

To import a pet to Bolivia, you'll need to ensure your pet has the necessary vaccinations and health certificates, which must be endorsed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian, and then present them at a designated entry point like an international airport upon arrival; pets typically enter in cargo, with specific crate requirements, and will need to go through customs inspection, including a vet check, which may require an appointment depending on the arrival time and airport; import taxes may apply depending on your pet's breed and origin.
Most pet imports to Bolivia happen through international airports like La Paz (LPZ) or Santa Cruz (SBB).
Pets typically enter Bolivia as cargo, not in the cabin.
Crate requirements:
Must be IATA-compliant, properly ventilated, and large enough for the pet to stand, turn
around, and lie down comfortably.
Label the crate clearly with pet details and contact information.
Customs process:
Upon arrival, your pet will be inspected by customs officials and a veterinarian at the
designated area.
Be prepared to present all required documentation.
