1. Microchip & Identification

All dogs and cats entering Ecuador must be identified with an Iso 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit pet microchip.

2. Rabies Vaccination

Vaccinate at 3 months of age. If this is the first vaccination of the animal to enter the country, it must have passed at least fourteen (14) days from the day of the vaccine application.  If it is a three-year vaccination, only the first year after the vaccination date is considered valid for entry.

3. Titre Tests & Bloodwork

Animals entering from countries in Africa, Asia, Oceana, and Australia should be accompanied with the results of a rabies titer test processed at a government approved laboratory, by a procedure of viral neutralization, (to verify if the vaccine has been effective with a minimum result of 0.5 IU/ml).

The Fluorescent Antibody Viral Neutralization test for rabies is not required to enter Ecuador from any other countries.

Dogs entering Ecuador from Australia can have a Microscopic Agglutination Test in lieu of the Leptospirosis Test.

If your pet is going to return to its country of origin from Ecuador, and its return requires an entry test that quantifies anti-rabies antibodies, by a procedure of viral neutralization, (to verify if the vaccine has been effective with a minimum result of 0.5 IU/ml). This assessment must be carried out in a laboratory authorized by the Official Service of the exporting country.

4. Quarantine Requirements

Animals that comply with requirements will not be quarantined.
