Uruguay Pet Import Requirements

Official veterinary regulations, microchip standards, rabies rules, and breed restrictions for entering Uruguay.

1. Microchip & Identification

Must be recorded in the International Health Certificate.

2. Rabies Vaccination

Required.
•    In the case of animals vaccinated for the first time, the vaccine must be given at least TWENTY ONE (21) days, maximum 12 months prior to entering.  3 years vaccine might be accepted with previous notification and authorization.
•    Must be vaccinated against rabies with vaccines authorized by the Veterinary Authority of the country of origin/prospect and with valid immunity according to the validity period granted by the laboratory that manufactured the vaccine. (Vaccines valid for 3 Years are accepted)
•    Animals that have not been vaccinated first, but that have a current vaccination plan, are eligible for entry, this must be certified according to the regulations established by the competent health authority of the country of origin.
 

3. Titre Tests & Bloodwork

For countries that do not declare free of Leishmaniasis in the OMSA, proof will be required with a negative result (IFAT, ELISA or direct agglutination test), or detection of the agent (by molecular methods), will be required within a period of no more than SIXTY (60) days prior to the date of entry of the canine to Uruguay. The diagnostic test must be carried out in accordance with the "Manual of Diagnostic Tests and Vaccines for Terrestrial Animals" of the OMSA. 

4. Quarantine Requirements

  • Dogs and cats do not require quarantine.
  • If entering. with any other non-traditional pet (i.e., ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, birds, etc.), whether permanently or temporarily, you must first process the import authorization with the MGAP (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock) and obtain the International Health Certificate in your country of origin because they will probably need to quarantine. 5. Breed Restrictions

6. Customs & Import Rules

Airport of entry it is MVD. The import process is long, it takes between 4 and 6 hours approximately. Provide owners passport copy, visa when applicable, POA & AWB (is required when pets arrive as cargo), rabies certificate, others vaccine, microchip certificate, Leishmania Test, IHC, Import Permit (If applicable). Pets can enter in cabin, as baggage, or as cargo. They can arrive during non-working hours, weekends and holidays (additional costs apply) / Please note that: Import process cannot be carried out on December 24th, 25th, 31th and January 1st.
